The new Nano design is equipped with a wide screen for watching the HD content available from the iTunes Store. The new Nano designs with a curved design to them, come in a rainbow of colors, and an ever so slight price reduction. In addition, the Nano takes advantage of the accelerometer which changes the screen size, by allowing a “shake shuffle” mode that empowers users to shake it to move to the next song on the shuffle. Also available are new earbuds which have navigation controls right on the bud cord and a microphone for the built in memo recording feature (sold separate for about $79). The new iPod nanos come in 8GB for about $150, or 16GB for $199 .A new iPod Classic 120GB model, portending the discontinuing of the 160GB variation, is also on the cards.

The new Asus G71 (17 inch) and G50 (15 inch) are the new gaming laptops released by Asus. Both new Asus G series gaming notebooks have almost the same specifications. The 14.1-inch GX400 and 15.4-inch GX630 are based on Intel’s Centrino 2 mobile platform and feature Core 2 Duo processors and the Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT video cards. On the other hand, the 17-inch GT735 is powered by AMD “Puma” technology, Turion X2 Ultra CPUs, and the ATi Mobility Radeon HD3850 dedicated graphics card. A whole feast for gamers.

Touch screens was a hot thing when it was released, but the thrill died down after their presence was seen almost everywhere in the form of ATMs. The inventors knew something extra was needed to bring them back to limelight. Teraokaseiko Co. Ltd. has displayed a cool touch panel display that can be used from either side of the panel. The double-sided touch screen was made by attaching a resistive touch panel to both sides of a transparent inorganic EL panel that had been developed by Teraokaseiko. The double-faced touch panel was part of the exhibitions at the Sign & Display Show taking place at the Tokyo Big Sight (Aug 28 to Aug 30, 2008).

The inorganic EL panel coems with a pixel count of 256×120 and has an orange monochrome display. The double-side view allows users to use the touch screen from both sides without blocking a part of the display from view. Since the screen can be used from both side, the interactive uses of the panel also increases. Apart from allowing two people to use the touch screen at the same time from both sides of the panel, the double-side touch screen offers other features, such as the pinching motion made famous by the revelotutionary iPhones (tapping and sliding touch movements are also accepted).

Here is a celebration of 'ingenious gadgets that attempted to solve human difficulty', but failed to do so because of practical difficulties.
1) The route-finder:
It was the invention of the future - a tiny machine complete with its own map that would tell motorists which way to go.

But this was no satnav - after all, the communications satellites that help modern cars locate themselves were still decades away.

Instead, the route-finder for the well-equipped 1920s driver was a wristwatch-style device equipped with minuscule maps.

Miniature scrolls bearing the directions were loaded onto the watch and revolved as the wearer continued his journey.

The 1920s TomTom never took off - perhaps because there were too few motorists to buy them.

2) Burglar Alarm

The clockwork mechanism on this 1870s burglar alarm was wound up and the upright lever set, before the device was placed at the foot of a door and a spike pushed into the floor. If an intruder tried to enter, the lever would be pushed down and set off the surprisingly loud and effective bell.

3) Pistol Purse

Highwaymen were a real danger in the late 19th century and this cunning design might just have saved everything for you including your honor, property and even life. A small was concealed in a secret compartment of this seemingly ordianry ladies' purse. The problem was that the barrel could hold only one bullet - so there was no room for missing the shot.

4)ELECTRO MASSAGER

During the 1930s, body massage was not seen as a luxury or part of being pampered but was, correctly, regarded as important for maintaining healthy skin and good circulation. However this functional-looking dynamo massager appears neither pleasurable nor safety conscious, as it ended up giving tiny electric shocks to the user.

5)Toe Socks

These pre-shrunk 'To Sox' were designed to act as toe protectors. Produced during World War II, it was claimed that they could reduce hosiery costs by up to 80 per cent. They were designed to be worn over the big toes, to protect socks from wear.

6) Envelope Sealer

This invention, by Reynolds of Chicago, was a byword for gravitas and efficiency. When the lever is cranked, a roller forces an open envelope to undergo a dampening process, before a second roller presses it closed.

7) Light Specs

Invented in the U.S. in the 1930s, these specs were adorned with two small, battery-powered lights, with a long wire trailing beneath. The experience was marred only by the likelihood of electrocution when it rained.

8) Eye massager

Apparently it was not enough to have

a gadget for massaging the body.
By the 1920s, it was also deemed necessary to devise a mechanism
to massage the eyeballs.
This convoluted gadget was
pressed to the face.
The user would then operate the small lever to compress the rubber bellows which would in turn emit cool puffs of air directly onto the eyeballs.

MSI's Wind NB U100 is one of the first Intel Atom-based mini-notebooks to appear. It gives a clear idea of what the bargain-priced CPU can handle. Other components include 1GB of RAM, an 80GB 2.5-inch hard drive, and Windows XP-, all for $550. The Wind is roughly the size of a super-small ultraportable laptop, like Lenovo's Ideapad U110, but mini-notebooks and ultraportables in no way overlap price and performance..

The Wind manages to get a cool design with a 10-inch, 1024-by-600 resolution display and a keyboard reasonably appropriate for hands to type on. It's also larger (10.23 by 7.08 by 1.24 inches ) than most other mini-notes, and its construction seems rugged (additional bonus is the well-constructed hinges inside the case). The Wind comes with an array of features like three USB ports, a Webcam/mic that camps atop the display, an SD Card slot, and ethernet and VGA-out jacks, like most of the present mini notebooks

The bundled software is pretty misery: a trial version of Microsoft Office 2007 and a BurnRecovery App that crafts a recovery CD which is not goona be useful for a device with no optical drive.

The Wind's most notable feature is TurboDrive--a feature that amounts to overclocking at the touch of a button. Essentially, TurboDrive appears to be a power management shortcut that shoves the Atom processor into its (relatively) high-power mode. Battery life is a big dissappointment: The juice lasted for just 2 hours, 24 minutes.

Navigating documents and files is reasonably painless. The single bar at the bottom of the mousepad is cool, which serves as both the left and right mouse click..

There are some solid reasons to consider MSI's Wind. It's small and fairly light (about 2.6 pounds), and it's sturdy enough to take a beating. Google will not manufacture any phone, but will help develop the software that handset manufacturers will install in their devices. Samsung, HTC, LG Electronics, and Motorola are among the companies that have said they will produce phones that run on Android.

The device on which Mr Rubin gave the demonstration (check out the video) had a touch-sensitive screen, but the software will work equally well on other devices, he said, including those with a so-called 'tracking ball', which has been used by BlackBerry.

Observers of the demonstration said the software feel that a resemblance to Apple's iPhone cant be ruled out, which is also a touchscreen device, and which allows owners to place icons linking to sites such as YouTube on the homepage.

Google s developers would create all kinds of applications that owners of Android phones will be able to download from the internet and install on their devices.

Android is what is known as an 'open-source' operating system, meaning that developers can access the code and create software that works with the device.

Google, which handles about 80 per cent of search queries in the UK, also hopes that by assisting in the production of a phone that will make it easier to use the web, it will tap a new source of revenue - advertisements that appear on web pages viewed on mobile phones.

W510 is Samsung's first mobile phone with 'bio-plastic' made from natural material extracted from corn. Samsung has been making an effort to develop more renewable and eco-friendly material compared with common plastic produced from petroleum. The w510 handset, is free the use of any heavy metals, such as Lead, Mercury, and Cadmium, even during its production. Only water-soluble coating is applied.

Samsung F268 with all the accessories including charger and headset does not contain BFRs (Brominated Flame Retardant) or PVC. Whats more? Last week, Sheraton Hotels and Resorts ordered 13 Microsoft Surface PCs, for installation in five branches located in Boston, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle. The units, which feature 30-inch touch-sensitive displays will be placed in common areas. Sheraton hopes that the guests will find the table computing platforms very useful.

For those who didnt catch the news long back, the Microsoft Surface is the first in a new category of surface computing products from Microsoft that will “break down traditional barriers between people and technology”.

A Surface computer is able to recognize physical objects from a paintbrush to a cell phone and allows hands-on, direct control of content such as photos, music,videos and maps. The surface looks no different from an ordinary surface, but the whole thing changes when the power is switched on. It turns an ordinary tabletop into a dynamic surface that provides interaction with all forms of digital content through natural gestures, basically touch and physical objects.

The new product is aimed directly at hotels, retail establishments, restaurants and public entertainment venues.

The much-awaited iPhone will be available in India from 22nd August onwards by the country's top mobile operators Bharti Airtel and Vodafone.
Bharti Airtel Ltd. announce just a few hours earlier that it will sell Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) third-generation 8gb iPhone in India, the world's fastest-growing mobile market, for INR31,000 ($709).

Bharti Airtel will begin retailing the iPhone at three company-owned outlets - one each in Gurgaon town on the outskirts of New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore - at 12 a.m. (1830 GMT) on Aug. 22, the mobile operator said in an e-mail to its subscribers who had signed up for updates on the iPhone's forthcoming launch.

The 16gb model will be available for $36,100, the email said..

Their rival Vodafone Essar, India's third-largest mobile operator, will also be charging Apple's iPhone 3G at 31,000 rupees ($708) for the 8GB model, a senior company official, said on Wednesday,

Vodafone Essar will be selling the 16gb model at 36,100 rupees ($824).
Ironically, the new iPhone sells for as low as $199 in the United States.

The Nokia Tube already seems like a high-roller device that will create a tough competition for the iPhone in the market. The Tube specs include a 16M TFT display with 360 x 640 pixels resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. The size of the display is somewhere between 3 and 3.5-inches. The display will offer a tactical feedback but the multi touch feature has been done away with.

The Tube, also known as the 5800 XpressMusic (or XpressMedia – no one seems quite sure), has an expected component list that reads like a roll-call for modern smartphones: behind the 640 x 360-pixel display will be a 3.2-megapixel camera (assisted by a dual-LED flash), 140MB of memory and GPS, EDGE, HSDPA (3G), wi-fi, Bluetooth radios.

An optional input method will be the Stylus bundled along with the phone. Hand-writing recognizition is available.

We are hearing that Apple is readying a iWatch device that will be sold in the $299 range. The brain of the the gadget is supposed to be a 2gig chip and there is a touch screen for selecting the menu. Now, this can be a blessing for people who want eveything at their fingertips.

Also rumours are out that Apple plans on partnering with Nike for custom bands for the crazy sports fans. Other variants are planned for release like a iWatch Red that gives a portion of the profits to the Global Fund to fund programs for women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa. From a technical point of view, this will be the first “i” device that will not have a standard iPod connection on it.

No idea on how the device is gonna charge, but speculations are out telling the device will sync with iTunes through Bluetooth. Some of the functions which is coming bundled will be iCalendar syncing as well as a contact management system. The body of the watch will of course hav that iPhoneish style. The band will be easily customizable,so get ready for prepare to fish out some more cash for getting the cooler look on the gadget with the lovely accessories.

CamBalls: maybe the smallest camera?

Seeing this tiny device to the tiny pile of coins might actually convince one to think that this might be the smallest digital camera in the world. But, again there are spy cameras size of a small pin that have been shown in movies. Anyway, this one exists in real life for sure.

Coming to its capabilities, the CamBall is able to record MPEG-4 video in 320 x 240 or 640 x 480 resolution. All data storage is possible via tiny SD card that is able to do about 8GB worth of memory.

There is also another model that has an MP3 player built-in. The CamBall also comes with a case so it can be used underwater.

Unfortunately, these CamBalls are available only in Korea, and cost about $200. Since, these are just in, we may expect them to soon spread out.

There are lots of gaming chairs that have speakers and a subwoofer, which are nice and have been done to perfection, but Gyroxus' gaming chair is a GAMING CHAIR. It's akin to the types of rigs one sees in arcades that jiggles people like crazy in sync with whatever racing, flying or shooting game you've just thrown four quarters into.

The Gyroxus works with Xbox 360, Windows, PS3, PS2 and "Nintendo", but neither of the two ordering options list any Nintendo compatibility. If the video after the jump is correct, all it does is lean forward, back, left or right depending on which way you move the center stick. Not only does this seem not all that comfortable, it'd be kind of a pain playing titles like Gears of War 2 on this thing. But racing games, on the other hand, could be phenomenal.
Though, this gaming chair originally sold for $489. If you’ve had your eye on one of these now might be the time as Gyroxus price was cut significantly to $389 recently..

Nikon D90: first DSLR to feature video recording

Its official unveiling isn't expected till next month. But details have started to come through about Nikon's new DSLR, the D90.

The Nikon D90 has been rumoured to have a 12MP sensor that's capable of shooting 4.5 frames a second, there's also live view which is frequently becoming the view of choice for DSLR users and it looks like geotagging will be a reality, with the D90 rumoured to be equipped with GPS capabilities.

This camera is set to be the first DSLR to shoot video as well as stills. Because of this, the camera comes equipped with a microphone grill. Any video footage can be played back on the TV via an HDMI cable.

The D90 features a new lens, too. The camera is said to come equipped with a 18-105mm f3.5-5.6G DX VR.

There's no cost or release date announced, but this new DSLR is expected to be a viable contender in the prosumer camera market.

Rolly audio entertainment player

You don't have to be the only one dancing to your favorite tunes -- your audio player can dance for you too.
Rolly, a unique "audio entertainment player" from Sony, is capable of twisting and turning while playing music. The player is egg-shaped and can fit into a hand.

It has speakers on each end that are normally hidden by dish-like covers, but the covers move to reveal the speakers and reflect their sound when the Rolly is switched on.

There's just one button on the player -- an on/off switch -- with the other functions being controlled by a pair of rings that circle its body.

One ring is used to move from track to track or album to album while the other controls the volume. The same two rings are connected to motors that enable the Rolly to scoot around a table-top in time to the music being played. Alternatively it can be set to sit motionless. In that case it's possible to control the Rolly by moving it back and forth to switch tracks, or in a circular motion to increase or decrease the volume.

Rolly has 1GB of flash memory built-in and can playback MP3, Atrac, or AAC songs (AAC songs with copy protection from iTunes Music Store aren't supported). In addition to playing back music from its internal memory the Rolly can also receive music streamed via a Bluetooth connection.

Rolly will accept streams from software and devices capable of Bluetooth streaming, the company said.

Rolly's movements need to be preprogrammed into the device for each track. There are six that are possible. The dish-like speaker covers can flap in and out, the ends of the device to which the speaker covers are attached can twist around and the wheels can turn. With just these six motions is possible to program a surprisingly complicated sequence of moves.

Sony will supply a software application called "Motion Editor" for move-by-move choreography or a rough set of moves can be automatically generated. The latter won't necessarily match in detail the music being played but it's a much quicker way of setting the Rolly in motion that programming by hand.

Users should get about five hours of audio playback from Rolly. This drops to four hours when the device is in motion and three and a half hours when Bluetooth streaming is also enabled.

The Rolly isn't an iPod-killer nor is it meant to be. At a relatively heavy 300 grams and measuring 104 millimeters long and 65 millimeters in circumference the player is not very practical for those wanting a portable audio player. But it is certainly unique and likely to be a talking point whenever people see it.

MSI has launched two new gaming notebooks, the 15.4-inch GX620 and the 17-inch GX720.Both operate on the Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor and have MSI’s own Turbo Drive Engine technology that instantly overclocks the CPU by as much as 15-percent. THe innovative ECO Engine Management system that cycles through gaming, movie, presentation, office and turbo battery modes, is controlled by touch-sensitive buttons above the keyboard.
